Create a local food farm

I want to create an area of common land that can be used by all to grow local, organic food, similar to allotments but without the politics and draconian entry requirments. Instead, people would be given the chance to work together to plant vegetables (and maybe strawberries) with an honesty system used to decide who takes what at the end of the season.

Why the contribution is important

Because carbon food miles are no joke! Also, this would give the next generation and their families an opportunity to 'green their fingers' without having to join the allotment club (with all the associated day-time drinking).

I recently visited a place where the local greengrocers bought veggies and fruit from the growers in their local allotment and sold it on in their shop. I thought this was a wonderful idea, as a lot of people have an allotment for fun or personal supply of fresh fruit and veg but they may have a surplus that just goes to waste. It would encourage people to grow their own and give more people access to fruit and veg whilst reducing our town's carbon footprint. All good things

local farmers may object, and the struggling farmers market might object, but Allotment land are hard to identify and there is a growing demand for plots rather than community collectives
